There is a likelihood of torrential rains in various districts of Punjab, and urban flooding warnings have been issued for several areas in the province.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) spokesperson stated that heavy rains are causing the water level in rivers to continuously rise, and a low-level flood has been observed in River Ravi at Balloki Headworks.
Given the weather conditions, the water levels in rivers and streams are expected to rise further.
At the Balloki Headworks, the inflow of water is 58,830 cusecs, while the outflow is around 42,030 cusecs. Additionally, there are low-level floods at Tarbela, Chashma, and Kalabagh dams.
The divisional administrations of Punjab have been directed to take necessary precautions and measures.
The Director General of PDMA, Imran Qureshi, has urged the administration to remain vigilant. He advised people to avoid unnecessary travel near rivers and cooperate with the authorities due to the potential flood risk.
Last month, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) experienced devastating pre-monsoon rains and floods, resulting in at least 25 fatalities and hundreds of injuries. Southern districts of K-P, including Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Karak, were heavily affected by powerful storms that caused destruction to homes, trees, and electricity infrastructure, stranding many residents.
During the storms, 12 people lost their lives in Bannu, five in Lakki Marwat, and four in Karak. Over 140 people sustained injuries due to high winds and storms, with most accidents occurring due to roofs being uprooted and walls collapsing.
