An octogenarian woman completes a 5K run daily, achieving an impressive 1,000-day streak.

Amidst the pandemic, the woman initiated her routine of walking or running a 5K every day. She has continued this habit ever since.

Despite the challenges brought on by the pandemic, a resilient Cherokee woman from Oklahoma refused to be discouraged. She made a firm commitment to walk a 5K each day for a consecutive one-hundred days. Yet, her determination didn't end there. Just after celebrating her 80th birthday in March, she accomplished an astounding milestone - completing her 1,000th 5K walk.

Pandemic:

Then the pandemic struck, compelling people to remain indoors, Mae Dean Erb from Blackgum, Oklahoma, refused to let it dampen her spirits. She made a resolute decision to embark on a daily routine of walking or running a 5K for a total of one-hundred days. With unwavering dedication, she ran or walked a 5K every single day. Now, after several years have passed, Mae Dean Erb has successfully ingrained this new habit, achieving an impressive 1,000-day streak. Her daughter, Julie Erb-Alvarez, shared with GNN, "I can't fathom how she managed to walk or run a 5K every single day for the last 1,000 days, but she did it."

5k every day:

Erb has no intentions of breaking her habit anytime soon. In an interview with the Cherokee Phoenix, she enthusiastically shared, "I don't experience any pain. Occasionally, my knees act up due to age, but this walking or running routine is truly a wonderful thing to do... It's not just for yourself, but also for your family. Having a 4-year-old grandson, I want to stay agile enough to pick him up, run with him, and keep him safe if he goes off in the wrong direction."

Erb's walking or running sessions are not solitary endeavors; she is often joined by friends who accompany her in the 5K walks or runs. Her daughter proudly attested to Erb's inspiring impact on both herself and the Blackgum community, stating, "Her milestone was celebrated with a gathering of friends and family, some even joining virtually. She is our hero."
