The era of global warming has come to an end, and the era of global boiling has now emerged, according to the United Nations Chief.

UN Chief Antonio Guterres stressed that the severe impacts of climate change align with scientists' predictions and repeated warnings. He expressed shock at thespeed of these changes and called for immediate and radical action to address the pressing issue.

Speaking in New York, Guterres referred to the record-breaking July temperatures as evidence that Earth has entered an "era of global boiling," surpassing the phase of global warming. He described the intense heat across the Northern Hemisphere as a "cruel summer" and emphasized that it poses a disaster for the entire planet.

Guterres reiterated his call for swift and far-reaching action, directing attention once again to the role of the fossil fuel sector in contributing to the crisis. He highlighted the dire consequences of inaction, describing the unbreathable air, unbearable heat, and unacceptable profits from fossil fuels.

The UN Chief called for leaders to take charge and stop hesitating or making excuses. He demanded that developed countries commit to achieving carbon neutrality by 2040, while emerging economies should aim for the same goal by 2050.

Looking ahead to the Climate Ambition Summit in September, Guterres urged humanity not to succumb to despair in the face of destruction but instead turn it into a catalyst for action. To avoid the worst outcomes, he emphasized the need to transform this year of burning heat into a year of burning ambition.
